But to the extent that institutional environments are fragmented, market locations are heterogeneous, and performance information is available to suggest differences in product quality, the more producers will form into distinctive strategic groups, consumers will make discriminating market choices, and diversification in form and outcomes will occur. None of this is well documented, however, and further studies are warranted.
