In that light, it is nothing short of disastrous that more than ever before, one antidemocratic system of ideasmarket ideologyalmost exclusively defines the terms of educational politics and charts the path of education reform.
Most important, however, is the fact that market ideology's virtually unchallenged dominance threatens the very existence of public education as a social institution, because its logic ultimately eliminates any justification for collective and democratic control of the schools. Market ideology and democratic values in education are mutually exclusive.
