It will be easy to understand that these diverse interests soon enough came into conflict with the demands of schoolwork. Already in the second class my results at the end of the year were insufficient to allow me to be transferred into the next class and I had to repeat half a year. In the third year class where, as I’ll shortly relate, I fell for chemistry, I had to repeat the whole year.
